TouchPad

TouchPad on Fedora 12

I don't use the touch pad on my Fedora laptop so I disable it. I find that since I'm not using it that it occasionally interferes with my typing. Beginning with Fedora 12, the package that was used to control the touch pad was gsynaptics. That package is now obsoleted by the package gpointing-device-settings as witnessed by my attempt to install gsynaptics.

[glenn@leonardo ~]$ sudo yum install gsynaptics
Password:
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Setting up Install Process
Package gsynaptics-0.9.16-3.fc12.i686 is obsoleted by gpointing-device-settings-1.3.1-5.fc11.i586 which is already installed
Nothing to do

Little did I know gpointing-device-settings was already installed. Found the GUI launcher for it under System >> Preferences >> Pointing Devices.

I toggled the touch pad off and now I'm a happy camper :D

However!

After I hosed my Fedora 12 Alpha install and installed Fedora 12 Beta from DVD the above application, gpointing-device-settings was no longer available. Back to gsynaptics it seems.

sudo yum install gsynaptics

Uncheck Enable Touchpad and I'm all set.
